I am a pastel artist who began working with watercolors before moving on to pastels. I enjoy the rich texture and immediacy that pastels provide. I began my career doing mostly landscapes, along with a few still lifes. As my work progresses, I continue to expand my subject matter to other areas such as cityscapes, interiors and whatever captures my attention. Each new subject is a challenge and provides me with new ways of working. As an artist I am interested in keeping a fresh look and seeing how far I can go in expressing the world around me.
I work both in studio and outdoors. Working outdoors keeps me intensely focused, since the light changes so fast. I enjoy that challenge and the loose quality of my plein air pieces. In studio, I have more time to structure a piece and am able to work on larger pieces since I have control over the lighting and such. I have no preference as to which way to work since each gives me skills and ideas that are unique to each. By experimenting with different colored papers and multiple palettes I am continuing to grow in my work and as an artist.
